Contrary to what you may
think creating a happy life is an advanced happiness skill.
This is the final lesson in
the Happiness Makeover leadership program after someone spends almost three months working on
their inner self.
So when you have completed
the ‘inner work’ it takes to maintain a frequent state of positivity,
resiliency is in your blood, you are on a clear path for contentment and
achieving consistent states of bliss THEN you can weave the web of a happy life
around you to sustain this inner state even stronger.
The Happy Life exercise in
the happiness makeover is based from a theory developed in 1966 and has
withstood the test of time.
This theory espouses we
have several categories in our life:
Socialization
Institutionalization
Habits
Reification
Knowledge
Language
Legitimation
It was 2004 when I fused
what I knew from happiness science with the social construction of reality to
indeed help others and myself live a sustainably happy life!
So here is a cliff notes
version to help you start thinking about the happy life you want to create for
yourself.
1. Who are you socializing
with?
2. What institutions are
you a part of and do they represent your greater value system?
3. What are the habits you
employ everyday to uphold your happiness?
4. What is the knowledge
you are consistently developing to further your happiness?
5. Have you converted to positive
language?
6. What are the things
around you and are they contributing to your happiness. Note – hoarders tend to
be unhappy
7. How are you going to
ensure this actually will work? What is your method of keeping up the web you
create for your happy life?
As you become empowered
over your own happiness, learn how to develop a frequent state of positive
mood, build your resiliency to rapid speeds, are developing contentment and
achieving states of bliss… the next level is to look on how you can create your
happy life around you.
